If you ever get a “too few values for the property” error after validating shorthand font declarations, remember to specify the font-family if you specify the font-size.
wrong:
p {
font: bold 11px/15px;
}
right:
p {
font: bold 11px/15px arial;
}
Of course, if you spend your days hanging out at the W3C, you’ve probably already read the spec on font and understand that’s what the question marks indicate in the following:
[ [ <'font-style'> || <'font-variant'> || <'font-weight'> ]? <'font-size'> [ / <'line-height'> ]? <'font-family'> ] | caption | icon | menu | message-box | small-caption | status-bar | inherit
Glad we have that all cleared up.
Thanks to my old friend Paul, I became a Neil Finn fan a few years ago (try saying that 10 times fast). Since then I’ve seen him three times solo, but last night at the Warfield was more of a Split Enz/Crowded House show because he was joined by his brother Tim. The middle part of the set was an 80’s flashback with the band playing: “I Got You”, “Poor Boy”, “One Step Ahead”, and the crowd-pleaser “History Never Repeats”, replete with wacky lighting. It was enough to make me want to throw on a skinny tie and dance around like I was in a John Hughes movie.
The last time I saw Neil he was out with Lisa Germano and Johnny Marr (if I remember right, they played “Bigmouth Strikes Again” during the encore). I enjoyed that show a teeny bit more, but that’s probably because it was at The Fillmore which is a better venue. Regardless, Neil and his brother were amazing, and as always there was a lot of crowd participation. I thought it was bold when Tim invited the crowd to carry the beginning of “Weather with You” given that it was only the second song of the set, but everyone was up to the task. It was beautiful but a little eerie when the audience also helped close the show by singing the chorus of “Four Seasons in One Day”:
Blood dries up
Like rain, like rain
Fills my cup
Like four seasons in one day
It doesn’t pay to make predictions
Sleeping on an unmade bed
Finding out wherever there is comfort
There is pain
Only one step away
Like four seasons in one day
Side notes:
Of the five musicians on stage, there were two sets of brothers and two Tims: Twins Paul and Jeremy Stacey on guitar and drums, along with Tim Smith on Bass.
The Finn Brother’s new album, “Everyone is Here”, is available August 24th. Those needing instant gratification can grab the EP from the iTunes store.
Opening act Angela McCluskey, who I really wanted to see, only played a 30-minute set so we missed her. Boo.
